Learning some filigree techiniques in Korcula

We have just had a visit from one of our New Zealand nieces.  Alexa spent her ‘summer holidays’ at school near Paris and included Korcula as a stop on her way home.  It was so wonderful to see her, I love an airport meet and greet.  We were blessed with stunning weather on several of the days she spent here, and the perfect activity for indoor days…… jewellery making!

Alexa’s knitting and sewing skills are both excellent and Doka was very impressed with how quickly she was able to replicate the dainty filigree work that he showed her.  Alexa and Doka decided that a bracelet would be a great piece to create to showcase several different filigree techniques.

Doka created the floral frames that would be the basis of this unique bracelet and together he and Alexa filled the frames with 5 different filigree patterns. Each silver thread used in creating the different patterns is only .4mm wide and working them into any recognisable shape or pattern is much harder than it looks!

The finished piece is stunning! Well done Alexa, we look forward to your next visit and our next project together.  If you would like to see some more of our filigree work please click here to link to our website, sebasilver.com.

Wow she picked that up really quick, is it easier than it looks!? When I eventually come to Croatia for a visit I’d love to have a try! 😀

She did pick it up really quickly! I don’t think it is easier than it looks… am signing up for some more lessons myself this week, will let you know how I get on!! Look forward to your visit, assume Korcula will be high on the Croatia list 🙂

  2. Amazed and impressed by the results of a novice! What a fun vacation AND family experience.

Thanks! I was really impressed too!! I have only tried 2 different techniques but aiming to be a bit more helpful with the filigree in the future so will be learning some more this week. Alexa made it look easy after a few tries too, but my fingers are yet to find the filigree groove! Always fun to have family and friends visit 🙂
